Crispy fries without oil are fat-free

Crispy fries without oil are fat-free!

Crispy, oil-free, baked fries as opposed to fried ones. That's correct, these golden fries don't need to be fried. With just two ingredients, russet potatoes, and sea salt, this recipe may be the simplest you've ever made.

How you prepare and bake your potatoes will determine how crisp your Oil Free Fries turn out

My fiance is Belgian, and Belgium KNOWS how to make a nice French fry, so I might be a little biased. When passing by a business selling "fries" (shouldn't they be called Belgian fries? ), you cannot help but notice the aroma of freshly cooked fries. Ha! I'll move on

Russet potatoes: Because they are very starchy potatoes, russet potatoes must be used in this recipe. Fries made using russets will have a crispy, golden surface and a soft interior. YUM.

Stone Baking Sheet: Baking your fries on a stone baking sheet (or pizza stone) as opposed to a baking pan is like baking them on a different day. With a stone baking sheet, you don't need to use ANY non-stick spray or parchment paper. Your potato slices will quickly crisp up and develop the ideal crunchy surface.

When placing your fries on the stone baking sheet, make sure they are not overlapping one another. If the fries touch, they will "steam" and not become as crisp as they should.

Bake

When we were living in Belgium, I would frequently prepare these Crispy Oil-Free Fries as a healthy substitute for the fries from the Frites shop. And if you use a few easy techniques to bake fries in the oven, they will come out just as crispy as fried fries (lol) without the grease.

Did I mention that these crispy oil-free fries can also be used to make vegan poutine? If you're unfamiliar with Poutine, it's a bizarre Canadian delicacy made up of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy. YUM.

Russet potatoes and sea salt are the only two ingredients in these crispy oil-free baked fries. How you prepare and bake the fries is the secret to the ideal fry, which has a crunchy, golden-brown surface and a soft center.
